The Curta Mechanical Calculator was considered the best portable calculator available before handheld digital calculators took over the market in the 1970s. Really interesting looking, beautiful mechanical object.

Amazing set of photos from Timothy Allen of an abandoned communist monument on Mount Buzludzha in Bulgaria. Built in the 70s and abandoned after the revolution in 1989. It now looks like something that would exist on a remote ice planet.
